Every Startup Wants a Rebrand. Most Need a Sentence.

Nine times out of ten the logo is fine. The problem is that nobody inside the company describes what it does the same way twice, and a new wordmark will not fix that — it will just make the inconsistency more expensive.

How To Tell Which One You Have

  • Ask three people what you sell. If you get three answers, you have a positioning problem wearing a visual costume.
  • Read your last five posts. If the voice changes with the author, the brand is a template, not an identity.
  • Look at the sales deck. Sales always rewrites the story first. Whatever they say is what the brand actually is.

A rebrand can change what people see. It cannot change what people say about you when you are not in the room.

What To Do First

Write the sentence. One line, no adjectives, no category invention. Then use it everywhere for a month and watch which parts people stumble over.

Half the time the identity work that follows is small — a type change, a tightened palette, a real photography direction. The other half you find out the sentence was the whole project.

The cheapest brand work is agreeing on the words.
